Man uses Facebook to try and get bait dogs for dog fighting | WREG.com

The internet can be a scary place for re-homing pets and police are cautioning everyone to be on high alert as a wave of criminals are using popular social networking sites including Facebook to acquire bait dogs for dog fighting.  Although more and more shelters are performing background checks on their pet adoption candidates, private parties are being warned against scam artists looking to use dogs for illegal purposes.

Jonesboro Animal Control in Arkansas is warning locals to be extra cautious of a North East Arkansas man who has been soliciting facebook users for dogs to use for dog fights. The problem stretches much further than East Arkansas, but this recent report stems from this area. Another tactic used by dogfighters is to get bait dogs is to have a seemingly sweet girlfriend or wife (and children are frequently used) plea that they are on a budget but want a loving family dog. The dogs are then turned over to the fights.

A new dogfighting arena is now mobile trunk dog fights- this is where two dogs are shoved into the trunk of a car to fight, and then driven around until the fighting subsides and the barking stops. And, the barking stops when one or both dogs have been killed.

A $5,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest of this man soliciting for dog-fighting and bait dogs, please share.
