‘Dog Whisperer’ says why Americans have problems with their dogs

Cesar Millan a.k.a. ‘Dog Whisperer’ joked and said how humans are the only pack that seem to follow an unstable leader, insinuating the current political situation of the country.

Millan expressed his positive feelings for the city of Chicago to Nina Menz of Chicago Tribune saying the city is ‘very earthy, very grounded.’

When asked what he meant, he said that unlike other places where you have to be very careful about what you say – in Chicago he can get straight to the point and speak ‘him’.

His hit show the ‘Dog Whisperer’ ran on Nat Geo for nine seasons.

He was in Glencoe Public Library on February 13 to promote his new book ‘Lessons from the Pack’- which is a collection of stories about the dogs that contributed to his viewpoint on life and a quick look on his own personal life that has not been exposed to the public life including the end of his marriage and his struggle with depression. He said the purpose of the book is to understand how dogs view the world.

Millan added the problem with Americans is they need to give their dogs a healthy dose of exercise, discipline and affection when most only give their dogs affection, which is quite selfish as only the owners benefit from this relationship. This leads to an imbalance.

When speaking with Daniel I. Dorfman of Pioneer Press about people having problems with their dogs, Millian said, ‘But you don’t realize that you made him that way. When he was a puppy, he had no issues’.

Speaking of his new show ‘Dog Nation’ he added there is a segment shot in Chicago where his son and co-host Andre help to open a dog park on the Southeast side.

‘Dog Nation’ premieres of March 3 on Nat Geo.
