Two ‘designer’ puppies stolen from Arlington Heights

A couple reportedly stole two ‘designer’ puppies from a pet store in Arlington Heights on the evening of Monday, January 30th. The following information and flyer with photos of the stolen puppy, was made available on the Arlington Heights Police Department Facebook page.

According to Arlington Heights Police Sgt. Chuck Buczynski, the two puppies- a Havanese and a Shih Tzu-poodle mix weigh about three pounds each and worth about $2,065 each. Each puppy has been micro-chipped for ID.

The employee reported that a couple came in to the Happiness is Pets Store located at 15 W. Gold Road and expressed interest in buying a pet.

Buzynski added, “The couple was playing with the Havanese in one of the store’s pens when they asked the employee if they could also play with a second puppy, the Shih Tzu-poodle mix.”

The employee put both puppies in the same enclosure and stepped in the back room to get some cleaning supplies, and heard the door buzzer. When the employee rushed back out both the couple and the puppies were gone.

In similar news, a 10-week old Shih Tzu worth $3000 was stolen from a busy pet store ‘Furry Babies’ in Joliet in November, 2016. The store offered a cash return for her safe return. The puppy is yet to be found.

Anyone with information about the incident can send an anonymous tip by texting ‘847AHPD’ and message to 847411, or you can call Arlington Heights Crime Stoppers at 847.590.7867.
